Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC)
RAC means you can board and you have a seat, but you share a berth with another RAC passenger until a full berth frees up.

Two RAC passengers share one side-lower berth, each getting the seat half of it. You are guaranteed travel, unlike a waitlisted passenger.
RAC clears into a full berth when confirmed passengers cancel before the chart, or when the on-board TTE allots a no-show berth after departure.
RAC sits between waitlisted and confirmed: every waitlisted ticket that clears passes through RAC first on most trains.
What to do about it
You will travel. If a full berth matters, an overnight journey, or travelling with family, ask the TTE after departure rather than cancelling.
